Startup MENA is extremely proud of the growing entrepreneur ladies community in Egypt. A year and half ago we began organizing meetups to support and encourage the ladies in pursuing their passion. Over that course of time, the number of attendees started increasing. We started with just 7 ladies, and we are proud to announce that our last meetup had more than 40 attendees!
Age doesn’t matter
What makes us even prouder, is the increasing number of young girls, aged 16 and 17, in attendance. One of these attendees was Mayar, the 16 year old founder of a fully functional startup called Awraq. Awraq is a learning tool to assist entrepreneurs in creating their business plans.
In addition, we had a woman who decided to start her own business after being a home stay-at-home-mom for 9 years. All of these amazing ladies prove that it’s never too LATE or too EARLY to start your own business and follow your dreams.
New Rules for the meetups
As a group, the ladies decided it is not enough to just meet and talk, so there are a couple new rules:
- First, each entrepreneur will have to set a goal for the month. She will work on achieving this goal during that month with the assistance of an assigned mentor from the ladies.
- Also, we started the tradition of having a 30 min talk or discussion about certain topic. During our last meeting, we had a growth hacking speech from our dear friend Amr Mazen founder of Circle Pie.
Finally, we wouldn’t have been able to start and sustain this wonderful supportive community, if it were not for the great help we receive from all of its members. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Oasis Community Center – OCC for offering to host our meetups. Also, to our fantastic partners Juicelabs.me, Entreprenelle and BznsCloud for helping us support and grow the community of women entrepreneurs in Egypt.
