Startup MENA was proud to host 6 Corporates and 20 startups from the GCC at the 1st exclusive matchmaking event last June at Grosvenor House in Dubai. The European corporate invitees arrived to Dubai looking forward to meet with startups in order to leverage their resources, explore their market reach and share their expertise in accelerating innovative Startups and business ventures. KLM, Arvato, Sanoma, Compass, Admiral Group and Rabobank each met with 5-8 startups in a 30min one-on-one session. The corporate invitees were extremely impressed by the traction of the business and innovation of the startups they met and there are ongoing discussions for collaborations in MENA.
As for the startups they were also happy with the organization and the opportunity, some of them are looking for more rounds of the event. Swappaholics one of the startups that met wit Admiral group quoted “Startups were matched perfectly with industry key players. There was no void of misunderstanding of concepts and expectations from both sides.”
It was also great to meet old friends and new faces as we welcomed Bridg, Telr, Wally, Beehive, Green Wallet, PiSlice, Carpool Arabia, Isolarworx and many other exciting startups representing the great talent that we have in the region.
Most of the corporates have found potential prostects with 2-3 of the startups that they met and we have had great updates on some of the ongoing discussions. As for other startups who did not fit or were not fully ready for a partnership, they received great advice & feedback on how to scale their businesses from the corporate executives who were happy to share their experience and industry expertise. We are excited to have had a successful format to find a good match between corporates and startups to match the online platform. We look forward to October where we will host the 2nd part of EU-GCC Connect in London where we will invite corporates from the GCC to meet with startups based in Europe!
